Woman & boy dead, 2 girls hurt, in south Baltimore crash

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A woman and a child have died, and two other children hurt, after a vehicle struck several pedestrians and crashed into a building at Mt. Clare Junction shopping center in south Baltimore's Pigtown neighborhood.

The shopping center is at West Pratt Street at South Carrollton Street.

Police confirmed a pick-up truck driver ran over the woman and three children.

The woman, identified later as Maria Ramirez, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the children was initially in critical condition; police later said the boy had died.

The two other children, both girls, are expected to recover, said police.

At least two of the people in the incident are believed to be related to each other, said Baltimore Police Department spokesperson Jeremy Silbert.

The crash is not believed to be intentional. The driver, who was the only person in the pick-up, remained at the scene.

"To see something like this, it's very upsetting," said Silbert, noting many people at the site were seen consoling each other.
