GLYNDON, Md. (WBFF) - A staff member at a northwestern Baltimore County Catholic school lost their job after having a gun at the school Monday.
The incident was reported at Sacred Heart School, on Sacred Heart Lane in Glyndon.
"The gun was discovered when the staff member mistakenly left it on a small table in the faculty restroom after removing it from a body holster while using the restroom," said Archdiocese of Baltimore spokesperson Sean Caine in a statement. "A faculty member found it upon subsequently entering the restroom and reported it to school administrators."
He noted the staff member had a legal permit to have the gun.
"The gun was immediately unloaded and secured and the police were called to the school[,] where they determined that the weapon's owner was a staff member who had a legal right to carry the weapon," said Caine.
"Because the Archdiocese and Sacred Heart School prohibit guns on campus unless in possession of law enforcement officers, the staff member was terminated," he said.
Parents were informed of the incident earlier in the day.
