Police say the suspect in the murder of a pregnant woman has been found dead.

BALTIMORE (WBFF) – Police say the suspect in the murder of a pregnant woman has been found dead.

According to investigators, the suspect was the husband of the murdered woman. He was found deceased overnight in Baltimore County, police announced on Monday morning.

Baltimore County police confirm 34-year-old Deron Deandre Barnes was found in the area of the Baltimore National Pike and Charing Cross Road.

He was lying on the ground and was pronounced deceased on the scene, police said.

An autopsy will determine his cause of death.

The pregnant woman was found outside a northeast Baltimore area hospital around 5:40 p.m. Sunday evening, with gunshot wounds.

She died shortly after being found and doctors were unable to save her unborn child. Police identified her as 28 year-old Shahidah Barnes.

Investigators believe the shooting happened in the area of Claybury Avenue and Bowleys Lane, where officers were called earlier that afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., for reports of gunshots.

When they arrived on the scene they found evidence of a shooting but no victim.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing a woman pulled out of a car and forced into the backseat by the suspect. Patrol began searching for the vehicle and a police helicopter became involved, which spotted the vehicle in the hospital parking lot.

Police say the woman was found inside the vehicle and taken into the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

She was 20 or 21-weeks pregnant at the time, police confirmed.

Any witnesses are asked to call detectives at 410-396-2100.
