TACKLING THE TRASH | Will new 'Smart Cans' make Baltimore cleaner?
BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Baltimore is hoping a new program will help the city's notorious trash problem.
Mayor Catherine Pugh officially launched the installation of several new "Smart Cans" throughout neighborhoods in south Baltimore Monday.
The cans will alert the Department of Public Works when they need to be emptied, using solar energy to power the device.
They also compact the trash to hold more and are supposed to help keep rats away.
Pugh said: "We want to make sure that we're doing our part, so that people, when they're walking down the street, will somehow find their way to put the trash in the trash can."
