Two men were shot Friday afternoon in the city's Reservoir Hill section, Baltimore Police said.

Police said officers were called just before 1 p.m. to the 900 block of West North Avenue after a report of gunfire. On the scene, the officer found a 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old man who had been shot multiple times.

Both men were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were described as not life-threatening.

The double shooting comes less than 24 hours after two men were shot near a Safe Street cookout in the Northeast Baltimore's Bel-Air Edison neighborhood.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison thanked the public after the department made arrests in several high-profile cases.

“Our department was able to identify and apprehend these suspects due, in large part, to members of the community and the hard work of our homicide detectives,” Commissioner Michael Harrison said. “This is how it has to happen. This level of cooperation and communication is a direct result of the bridges of trust that we are working hard to build with community members. This continued partnership is how we reach our goal to make our neighborhoods safer and to bring to justice those responsible for the violence in our city.”

Mayor Brandon Scott congratulated the department on the recent arrest and touted the department's case clearance rate, despite it being below the national average.

"Building public safety in Baltimore must be done in partnership with our residents and communities," Mayor Brandon M. Scott said. "I want to salute the tireless efforts of our BPD Detectives in bringing these cases to a close, but I want to commend our residents for stepping up and providing essential info to aid in these closures. BPD does not achieve a 46 percent clearance rate without increased participation from our residents, and that signals new partners in our efforts to co-produce public safety across the city."

As of Friday, Baltimore police reported 116 people had been killed in homicides so far this year, a 6.4 percent increase when compared with the same period last year. Also Friday, Baltimore police reported 237 nonfatal shootings so far this year, an 11.4 percent increase when compared with the same time period last year.
