WITNESS KILLED| Shooter on the loose as basketball player's death is investigated

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - The search for the killer of 25-year-old Tracey Carrington continues four days after the professional basketball player was gunned down.

Tracey Carrington a 25-year-old former Morgan State University basketball player and mentor was killed in Overlea Thursday night.

FOX45's Crime and Justice reporter Joy Lepola got information Friday that Carrington was a witness to a double murder earlier this year.

Carrington was in a Towson apartment complex in April where two men were found fatally shot, the men arrested in that case are out on bond.

Court records show Nyghee and Norwood Johnson are on home detention.

The names of potential witnesses in that trial were turned over to defense attorneys in late June.

Warren Brown, attorney for the two suspects in the Towson homicides, said: "My clients had nothing to do with this ladies murder!"

He admitted names of witnesses were turned over but not addresses.

Prosecutors charged the brothers with murder after two men were found fatally shot inside a Towson apartment complex in April.

Sources told FOX45 that Carrington was in that apartment when the fatal shots were fired.

Police have yet to say if there's any connection between the two cases, only that Carrington's killing remains an open investigation.

Baltimore County Police say, "At this point there is no definite link between her murder and the murder she witnessed, although that is certainly one of many leads we will be looking into as part of the overall investigation."

Right now, detectives have a vague description of Carrington's killer.

Detectives say the gunman approached the 25-year-old as she and a friend were getting in their car after leaving the S&S Lounge at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Carrington died after being shot multiple times.

Police say Carrington was the only one targeted.

The Johnson brothers are scheduled to stand trial in January.

A GoFundMe has been established to help Carrington's family with funeral expenses.
