WASHINGTON (WJLA) - A father is grieving after skeletal remains found in a wooded area on Suitland Parkway in October were confirmed to be his son’s.

He was told the news Thursday – on the day his son, Marty McMillan, would have turned 23.

The father says his son went missing in April after leaving for a date with a woman he had met on the dating app Plenty of Fish.

D.C. police believe McMillan was shot to death in the District and his body dumped in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where his remains were found wrapped in a blanket.

His grandmother says he had just started a new job and she believes the dating app played a factor in his murder.

“We learned about the app by going through his phone records ... these were not the people he thought,” Forlesia Cook said.

Authorities say the last phone call McMillan made was to the woman he was supposed to meet. Detectives say they have talked with her, but she claims she didn’t even have her phone during the time of the incident and says they never met up.
