Baltimore City Student Publishes Book at Age 9

Rianna Facey is a third grader at Calvin Rodwell Elementary in northwest Baltimore. But she’s accomplished something by the age of 9, that most don’t do in a lifetime.

This Baltimore City student is a published author.

Rianna fell in love with writing at a summer learning camp at a Baltimore City School. She began jotting down stories in a journal. When a cat showed up on her front porch one day, her inspiration was born.

She wrote a book titled “The Cat That Wouldn’t Go Away” and contacted a self-publisher who agreed to publish it. A family friend provided the illustrations.

“I’m really proud of her. She’s only nine and wrote the book when she was eight. It’s something I didn’t do,” says Rianna’s mother, Tywanna Gardner.

“It just comes naturally,” Rianna tells Project Baltimore.

Rianna’s book is for sale at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.
