BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF) -- Thiru Vignarajah has prosecuted cases at all levels. During a sit-down interview earlier with Crime & Justice Reporter Joy Lepola, Vignarajah discussed everything from the accountability he views as missing within the current State’s Attorney’s Office to representing the State in the Adnan Syed case.
Vignarajah says his overall pledge is to cut murders in half within three years of taking office. He says, “We’re gonna create the most transparent, innovative and progressive prosecutor’s office in American history.”
When asked what that would look like Vignarajah explained it would mean an end to cash bail, mandatory minimums as well as life without parole for juveniles.
The former Chief of the Major Investigations Unit under Former State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein says, “I want people to know how important of a role the State’s Attorney plays in that. They have traditionally been the quarterback in the fight against crime.”
Defense Attorney Ivan Bates is also running for Baltimore State’s Attorney as well as incumbent State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby.
All three candidates have sat down with Fox45.
